Justice Society

This piece marked the halfway point during the year at the Kubert School. The assignment was the same as our initial assignment (the one with the sword!) and we needed to consider the aspects of art that would inform our artwork.

I spent a lot more time on this one than I did with my earlier pieces and while there was a bit of struggle, I ended up liking the textures and patterns I used to bring the piece together.

And for the uninitiated, These are some members of the Justice Society, The first team of Comic Book Superheroes.

This was an assignment to do a wraparound cover, meaning the front and back cover make one image. My plan was to throw as many people into the composition as I could while still being readable.

Dog

In Another inking Assignment, this is a dog I drew to practice inking lines with a brush. It enhances my long love of drawing as many dots as I can in my work, as you will keep seeing.

For one of my humour assignments (We have a humour class, isn't that crazy cool?) I had to draw an underwater family, and tried the Simpsons. Grandpa is definitely my favourite part of the picture.

Early Comic Assignment: People in Percpective

This was an early assignment about putting figures into perspective. I drew some cars for fun, and Magneto, again for fun. I find I learn more when I put more elements into a piece since I then have to address more weaknesses in my work.

Here were some of my earliest inking assignments at the Kubert school. They were very fun assignments: Draw a weapon, draw a robot, draw a graveyard, and then ink it. I am glad that I got more experimental with my inking as I went and tried new things, even when they look really weird!

Comic Post: Early Archie

These are some of my early attempts to draw the Archie comics characters

The first was for an add we had to draw, so I chose to draw the characters eating at my kosher hot-dog cart at Niagara Falls!

This was my first take on a one page Archie story that ends with a gag at the end.

Comic Artwork Is Up and Running

Hi All!

Over a month ago I finished my first year at the Kubert School. This is a great school, dedicated to teaching comic book artists and a focus on narrative illustration. It was a fantastic year, met loads of fantastic people and feel I improved a good amount in my illustration.

Over the summer, I hope to share the work I have done this year with you. As I post newer material, you can see the new things that I have been learning come into play into my work. This piece was done the first week last September to show the basic level I was at with my illustrations, so I thought it was a good place to start:
