Thinking about my entire Smiley family today, and wanted to share some more work I've been doing to bring my Zaidi's autobiography to the visual medium. Among everything else I'm grateful he gave us such a powerful metaphor to look towards.

This is an old assignment (about a year old) that I wanted to color. It's hard to do a darkened pallet when one of your villains has a pink head.

Here is the inked cover for my book coming out this September, called Tales of Rosh Hashana: Hannah and Hagar. It's two separate stories that I'm telling at the same time in a cool way. I know it's bad design to have Hannah's head completely upside down, but I secretly love that you have to physically turn the comic book around in order to see her straight. Drawing from kids drawings!!!

One of my favorite things to do when I teach comics is to take the drawings of my kids characters, and then re-create them in my own style. These were all from a big class I ran at Temple Beth Ami in DC a month ago. Lots of imagination and to get the picture they've gotta prove I taught them something which is fun.

I'm starting to shill… I mean promote my next Holiday book coming out in may. Working on two  books at the same time (with so many other projects at the same time), is more than I've ever done before.
